DANNY BARRETT
Quarterbacks Coach


Danny is an All-Star veteran who will help the Lions' offence both on and off the field. In 1997 the 13 year CFL veteran hung up the cleats and concentrated on coaching the Calgary quarterbacks, signing with the BC Lions in '98 as Quarterback Coach. Danny started his CFL career in 1983 and played for the Calgary Stampeders for three years before signing with the New Jersey Generals of the USFL. Leaving the Generals in 1987, he joined the Toronto Argonauts and played for two seasons before finding himself back in Calgary. His career pinnacle was leading the Stampeders to the 1991 Grey Cup for the first time in 20 years. In 1992, Danny was traded to the Lions in exchange for Offensive Lineman Rocco Romanao and Jamie Crysdale, plus the rights for Calgary to play an exhibition game in Portland. As a BC Lion in 1993, Barret had a record-setting August 12th against the Toronto Argonauts. All Danny did was surpass a 39 year old CFL record that was set by Alouette quarterback Sam 'the Rifle' Etcheverry, completing 30 passes for an incredible 601 yards. Danny spent the next two seasons as an Ottawa Rough Rider before once again going back to Calgary. In 1996 Danny backed up Jeff Garcia and played in a total of 11 games. In 1997 Danny hung up the cleats and concentrated his skills on coaching. 1998 will be Danny's second year of coaching in the CFL. Barrett co-captained the University of Cincinnati Bearcats in 1982 and earned an Honorable Mention Associated Press All-American nomination. An active member of the Athletes in Action, Danny and his wife Alison, sons Joshua, Zachary and daughter Whitney reside in White Rock ... DID YOU KNOW ... While playing for the Calgary Stampeders in 1983, Danny a rookie quarterback, threw the first-ever touchdown pass in BC Place Stadium.
